About us
We believe the power of community can create society wide change in the way we age. That’s why our Village has built a network of support via programs, volunteer coordination, and resources for Lancastrians to stay informed, involved and independent in their communities.
What is a Village?
A Village organizes volunteers to support members in their own neighborhood. Each Village provides slightly different services depending on what members want and need. Villages help members to live safely and with purpose by coordinating access to affordable services and a variety of social, educational and entertaining programs. The Village Movement started in 2002 in Boston, and today there are more than 250 established villages, and over 100 in development across the country. Learn more about the Village Movement.
What does Lancaster Downtowners do?
Through our volunteer-first mission, we engage Lancaster residents, especially older adults, to support one another to improve our community and live fulfilling lives. Our “Just One Call” program coordinates volunteers who provide short-term help with everyday tasks like transportation, simple home maintenance, and technology support. We also provide social, educational, and wellness programming. Lancaster Downtowners is a resource for local, regional, and national information, best practices, and referrals, including our directory of member-recommended providers. Most of our activities and programs are designed and coordinated by members and volunteers.
