Active Outdoors: Identifying bird songs with Merlin app

Want to learn to identify birds by their songs? For both experienced and inexperienced birders, the Merlin app, coming out of Cornell University is the best thing since sliced bread.

Download the Merlin app on your smart phone (contact Rod Houser if you need help with this) then join me at 8 am at Noel Dorwart park. We'll spend an hour learning how to use the app and see how many birds we can identify.

Beg, borrow, steal or bring your own good pair of binoculars and we'll find the birds to look at them. Both experienced and novice birders (or birder wannabees) are welcome, but the walk will focus on the needs of the super novice.

Address is 408 Parklawn Ct. if you are using gps but if you know the area, it is on the east side of Good Drive between Marietta Avenue and Route 30, just beyond the railroad tracks if you are driving north.

Downtowners must login (upper right corner) to register for this event.
